ARTIFICIAL WOOL,

ITAIfIAN INVENTION

LONDON, Dec. 24

Bradford is manifesting a most lively interost in a story that the Italian patentees are prepared to co-operate with Yorkshire manufactiirers in developing a process for making artificial wool, details of which are not at present disclosed beyond a hint that a certain amount of genuine wool, plus wood-pulp, will be used. It is understood that the Bradford group will go to Italy in the New Year to investigate the claims of the process, capital for which is said to have been offered in London. Messages from Bradford suggest that the process has been evolved from ideas gained in making artificial silk, one type of which is made from silk waste, said to resemble wool somewhat.—A. and N.Z. cable.

The Farmers’ Union of Otago, dissatisfied with the present way of selling fat stock for local consumption, has under consideration a scheme- for remedying the faults that the present method is said to have, states an exchange. The effect of the new scheme would be to cut out altogether the Burnside fat stock market by having stock killed at the nearest refrigerating works and kept in cold storage in the city, to be sold by the pound. This method, it is stated, is followed in many of the big markets of tho world.
