ALLEGED LOCK-OUT OF FLAX-CUTTERS. TfHE Secretary of the Manawatu Flaxmills’ Employees’ Union has issued a circular stating that a lockout lias occurred at Whitaunui, Ltd., Flaxmill, Moutoa. The Company hereby give an emphatic denial to this statement, and further say that the position as outlined in the Union’s circular is NOT in accord with the facts of the case. No agreement to pay 20s per ton for cutting the particular block of flax in question was ever entered into by the Company; neither was the price reduced to 18s per ton as stated in the circular. On the contrary, the true position is that the Company’s first offer was 18s per ton, which was subsequently raised to 19s per ton. The cutters refused to accept either of these offers, and therefore of their own volition left the employ of the Company. WHITAUNUI, LIMITED.
