RABBIT CONTROL. MEETING OF APITI-POH AN GINA BOARD. A meeting of the Apiti-Pohangina Rabbit District Board of Trustees was held in the Council Chambers, Pohangina, on Saturday, there being present: Trustees A. Brooking (in the chair), T. E. Craine, J. S. Mclntyre, H. L. Osborne and W. M. Stewart. Accounts totalling £127 19s 2d were passed for payment. The inspector reported as follows: — Since my last report I have inspected practically all properties in the board’s area and find that prevailing weather conditions in the early part of October, and during the month of September, rendered it impossible for owners to check the increase in young rabbits by poisoning, although many ratepayers' during that time did real good work by fumigating burrows with car-bon-bisulphides. This method of rabbit destruction is now in Use on almost all properties in the board’s district, where the pest has burrowed to any extent, and the very best results are being obtained when the wdrk is systematically earrid out. I also wish to report that, during the last few weeks, a large part of the board’s district was poisoned with phosphorus pollardi, with very satisfactory results, and I am sure that the majority of owners who have not done sufficient work of late will in the future do their best to reduce the pest, but the pressure of other important work, such as shearing and putting in crops is in the meantime responsible for their not having taken full advantage of the fine weather. Since last meeting I have served notices as required, and posted a good many warnings. Also, I have personally interviewed owners.
