OPERATIC SOCIETY
SLIGHT LOSS ON PRODUCTION.
HOAV CHARITY HAS BENEFITED IN PAST.
Speaking at the conclusion on-Satur-day evening of the final production by the Palmerston North Operatic >-.b----ciety of “Les Cloches de Cornoville, the president of the society, Air B. J. Jacobs, said that, while he had been gratified with the high standard of talent revealed, he regretted the financial outcome had not been all that could be desired. ,The expense entailed in the production of tl)e piece had been. particularly heavy, the' excellent scenic decorations, which were the work of Air Beck, of Wellington, and which were, in his opinion, superior to any iirofessional scenery, contributing in some degree to this end. The public, however, little realised the expense entailed and it was on their support that the society relied .'to secure the fruits of its works. Since its birth the society has donated the substantial amount of £360 to charity and worthy causes, but, unfortunately, on the present occasion there would be a loss on the production. It is interesting to note that the cost entailed in the production of “Les Cloches de Corneville” amounted to the big figure of £6OO and a loss of some £SO to £6O will result.
