Leon Daudet (leader of the ril'ench Loyalists) was found shot in 11)23, is suing M. Daudet lor £2OOO damages for having libellously accused him of complicity m an alleged crime. M. Daudet snouted dramatically; |‘Police-Inspector Colombo shot Pijilippe in the anarchist Le lfiaouetter’s bookshop. Lanne and Delauge then concocted the suicide story." M. Lanne is a brother-in-law of M. Poincare, the former Prime Minister. liajot gave evidence that Philippe Daudet seemed to bo in a hurry wnen he hailed the taxi-cab in the Place de. la Bastille. He admitted that he modified his original Hurried statement when brought before a magistrate. ' Madame Daudet said that Philippe was so happy at home that she was certain he could not have committed suicide.
