VIOLENT STORM.

W’ELLIN GTO N VISIT ATI ON. CHIMNEYS BLOWN DOWN. A storm of extraordinary violence struck Wellington a few minutes lietore 11 o’clock yesterday. A whirlwind seemed to vent its full force in Pol lest on street, where two chimneys oi one residence ■ and cue chimney of another were blown down. A lady was out in her yard at the time, endeavouring to rescue some curtains off the line, but the whirlwind whisked them out of her hands and deposited them in Wallace street, a hundred yards away. A brick from a crashing chimney, struck the same lady on the ankle, but fortunately she was on the leeward side of the house, and the hulk of the bricks fell in the opposite direction. The disturbance subsided almost as suddenly as it had arisen, and only tile demolished chimneys were left as eloquent evidence of the startling visitation (says the Do- • minion).
