ADDRESS TO "SCHOOL BOYS. Yesterday afternoon Mr J. P. Kalaugher, secretary of the Friesian Association, addressed the students ot the agricultural classes of the Palmerston l\orth Boys’ High School on features of the Friesian cattle breed in particular, and other dairy types in general. Ho dealt iirst with the various breeds of cattle used in New Zealand dairying and the application of scientific principles of breeding to obtain tho best type of animal with the highest possible milk and butterfat, production. Charts were displayed illustrating the production increase from “scrub” cows by tho use of good bulls in from four to five generations. Bulls for dairy herd purposes, lie stated, should bo true to typo with good butter-fat record backing. Agricultural and pastoral shows, he stated, could do a great deal in illustrating what could he secured from tho “scrub” cow with tho use of a pedigree bull. In conclusion he stressed the value of ’adequate and proper feeding of tho dairy cow.
