Mr F. J. Nathan attended the Syd noy Rotary Club’s luncheon last week

Mr W. 1). Lambio, of Wellington, assistant H.M. Trade Commissioner, was a visitor to the Show to-day. Rev. John Miller, of St. Clair, Dunedin, has received a unanimous call to the Papanui Presbyterian Church.

Sir Ernest Rutherford arrived in Dunedin from Christchurch liy motor last evening. Visitors welcomed at tho Rotary Club's luncheon yesterday were : Messrs F. Stubbs, Wanganui; Hall, Melbourne, and Gordon Durant. Dr. C. B. Rossiter, who left Auckland in 1900. with the intention of touring the hospital centres of America and England, has returned to New Zealand.

The many friends of Mrs R. Banks, of Amesbury street, and who for many years resided at Terrace End, will regret to learn that she is very seriously, indisposed. At Oamaru yesterday the GovernorGeneral and Lady Fergusson visited the high schools and addressed a gathering of primary school children, leaving by tho mid-day express for Dunedin.

Mr I. D. Shearer, who for the past six months has been manager for t/,e Public Trust at Levin, is to bo succeeded by Mr Rist, of tho >V'ellington office, who was previously located at Levin.

Mr Owen Jones, B.A. (Oxon), who has haxi extensive experience in afforestation in England, France. Germany, Switzerland, Ceylon, and Australia, and Was lately chairman of the Victorian State Forestry Commission, has been appointed forestry administrator for a New Zealand firm.

Deep regret will be expressed to Miami Mrs H. Stevenson, of 14 Summerhays street, in the sad loss they have sustained by the death of their fourth daughter Elsie, who passed away at 5 o’clock last evening, at the ago of 21 years. Miss Stevenson had been confined to her bed for tho past 12 months, but boro her illness with Christian fortitude. She was always of a bright and cheerful disposition and slio will be missed by a largo circle of friends. Major H. C. Hemphill, of Wanganui, has been appointed to command the 9th Regiment New Zealand Mounted Rifles (North Auckland). During tho latter part of tho Near Eastern campaign, Major Hemphill served on Anzac Mounted Divisional Staff, under General Sir E. W. C. Chaytor, as D.A.A.G., first having gained his majority in the Imperial Camel Corps, commanded by General L. C. Smith, V.C.

Mr J. Mason, the successful Reform eandidato for tho Napier seat, was in legal partnership somo ten or eleven years ago with Mr M. H. Oram, of Palmerston North. At the outbreak of the European War Air Mason enteredcamp at Awapuni and at the conclusion of activo service abroad went to Napier, where he is now practising his profession of a solicitor. Mr Mason is a renowned chess player, having won the championship for New Zealand. He has always taken a great interest in the affiairs of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and was associated with the Repatriation Board.
