STRIKING TRIBUTE

BY HON. D F. WILBER. “BEST LITTLE COUNTRY ON EARTH.” Reference to the possibilities of tourist traffic to New Zealand from the United States was made by Hon. D. F. Wilber, ex-Cousul-Gcneral for the United States in New Zealand, at the smoke concert tendered him last evening by the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association.

“You have got to use publicity,” he said, speaking in this connection, “and tho most practical way of doing that is through the press of our country and our high-class magazines. Other means could be used, but that is the best method.

“You have the best little country I know of on earth —soil, climate and scenic attractions—a sportsman’s paradise. But best of all are your people. No country on God’s earth is worth living in unless it is peopled by the. right sort of inhabitants. You have the good old Anglo-Saxon stock here. I don’t care whether a man is a Britisher, whether an American or a citizen of the Argentine, but I want to see him 100 per cent loyal to the country which lie calls his own.” (Applause.)
