PASSING THE BUCK

MR CHURCHILL’S CHALLENGE. LONDON, Oct. 24. The Chancellor ot the Exchequer, Mr Winston Churchill, apparently nettled by “indiscriminate abuse,” has invited the editors to submit their plans for the saving of £100,000,000 in the national expenditure, which he promises to carefully and seriously study. The Daily Mail says: “That’s called ‘piissing the buck.’ ” The Cabinet has approved of the East African Commission’s recommendation of an Imperial guarantee of a loan of £100,000,000 to develop railways, harbours and bridges, but is undecided how to raise the money, in view of the embargo on loans.
