[Published by Arrangement.] NOT FROM MOSCOW! (To the Editor.) Sir, —In reply to a statement by Mr R. Cobbe that be gives “Mr Taylor’s statement that Mr Cobbe asked the Labour Party’s executive to withdraw Mr Taylor as a candidate,” an unqualified denial, we publish the following extract from a letter wo have received from the secretary of the National Executive of the New Zealand Labour Party (Mr W. Nash) relating to an interview with Mr Cobbe, at which the national president of the New Zealand party (Mr T. Brindle) was also present. “Mr Cobbe called at my office some I time during September. He mentioned the fact of Labour contesting the seat, that there was no hope of Mr Taylor winning the scat, and suggesting that wo should withdraw his candidature. “I told him that we did not withdraw candidates from any electorate, that Mr Taylor was there for tho purpose of polling the Labour votes and wo hoped that ho would poll them in sufficient number to become the member for the district. “I then asked: ‘ln any case, why should we withdraw Mr Taylor’s candidature for you? What is the difference between yourself and the Reform candidate?” and ho stated then that he apparently had no case, that ho was opposed to tho Labour Party’s policy, but that Mr Gordon Eliott was a “Tory.” We are handing the original letter, tiffined by Mr Nash and dated October 28th, 1925, over to his Worship the Mayor of Eoilding (Mr W. J. Carthew) so that any elector desiring to see the ’ letter, can do so. , I am, etc., 1 P. G. GUY, , Secretary, Feilding Branch, N.Z.L.P.
