COMMUNISM AND LABOUR

(By Rev. A. A. MURRAY.) On the eve of the elections the fact cannot he too strongly stressed that Labour is the sworn enemy of the God of the Bible and of the churches generally. Are the Christian people prepared to put such a Government into power P, Is it not better by far to piit a party into power that stands for God, the Bible, the churches, law and order, than a party that has shown itself in perfect sympathy with red-handed Communists whose propaganda in Russia lias blasphemed God and destroyed Christianity?

This Communistic programme is headed and engineered and supported by men who have no belief in the God of our Bible and in our Lord Jesus Christ. Its headquarters are in Aloscow, hut its roots and ramifications are everywhere. Let Christian people understand that it is an atheistic propaganda—a propaganda against all that we hold dear. AA’liat greater calamity could befall us than to ho under infidel rule? The Labour forces of this country look with sympathy and respect upon these butchers that have slaughtered Russia and left her bleeding and dying. The Labour members of our New Zealand Parliament would welcome to New Zealand some ot • these red-handed murderers. Let all who respect God and the Bible; all who believe in our churches and in religious- liberty, refuse to put a Labour member into Parliament. You go to a Labour meeting and speak a word in support of faith in the God of the Bible and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and you would lie hooted and howled down. Are we going to stand for this sort of tiling? “MOST UNPATRIOTIC.” Now this Communistic propaganda in our midst is most unpatriotic. . The average Labour crowd has no respect for the King on his throne, or for the Union Jack. ALeu who have been born and brought up under the Union Jack, and who have enjoyed all the blessings that our Hag stands for, are ready to trample upon it, insult the King, and hoist the red flag of revolution and anarchy. They would sooner sing a song of blasphemy and revolution than our National Anthem. I am not exaggerating it when I say that all who arc going to vote the Labour Party into power are not true supporters of our King and Flag. This vile Communistic doctrine is being taught to many of the children. The boys are taught to despise the flag, to show disrespect^ to the King and all in authority. These Socialist Sunday schools arc a menace to Christianity. A hoy must not become a scout because lie would have to salute the Union Jack, which is “an emblem of oppression and slavery.” Could anything he more dreadful than that? The Bible teaches us to honour the King and to pray for all that are in authority. . Communism teaches us to hate the King, and tear down all that I are in authority. Why, in the name of common honour, don’t such fellows leave the British Empire and go to where they belong? Let them got out •of this country, bag and baggage. If they won't have our Bible and our Saviour, if they won’t have our flag and pay respect to it, and to the laws of our land, then let them go to the country whose government they endorse, and not stay here to corrupt, disrupt and demoralise the youth of our land ami turn our prosperity into desolation. I sincerely trust that the Reform Government will he returned with an overwhelming majority, and that our immigration laws will ho tightened up. Every Christian man should strengthen the hands of the Government in dealing with this blight and scourge of Communism. I fear that many of the immigrants arriving in this country arc permeated with Communistic doctrine. Wo are. in too great a hurry to fill up our country, and. unless the greatest caution is exercised, we shall find this unsavoury breed dominating our country in which they own neither a house nor a loot of land. WHAT COMMUNISM IS.

Communism is a policy and propaganda born of greed and laziness. For years the Labour crowd have inculcated as a part of their teaching the doctrine of “go-slow.” “Don't do an honest day’s work. Don’t increase the capitalist's wealth lest you put a stronger weapon into his hand with which to fight you.” Such is their creed. This doctrine is wholly wrong and wholly unscriptural. The Bible advocates earnest, faithful toil. “The hand of the diligent inaketh rich.” “Faithful in business, fervent in spirit serving the Lord.” “He who won’t work' should not eat.” The men and women who laid the foundation of this country’s wealth and prosperity were certainly not tainted with Communism, but were hard working people who toiled from daylight till dark to make for themselves a home, and now that they are beginning to enjoy the fruit of years of strenuous work the Red Socialist and Communist comes along, the fellow who won’t work, and says: “I’ll have some of your earnings hv fair means or foul.” It was contempt for honest toil that helped to bring about the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, and it is this wicked, unholy doctrine of greed and laziness that is largely responsible for the high prices of our foodstuffs. Let 'men work as our fathers worked and there will be such a magnificent production that all will share in the general benefit. Again, Communism is animated by the spirit of lust and murder. It teaches its children to resist the laws of the land-—to resort to bloodshed unless its unjust and unholy demands are met. There is a quotation from its manual of instruction for young and old: “Thou shalt teach revolution, for revolution means the abolition of tbe present political state and the end of capitalism and tbe raising in their place of an industrial republic.” One can well imagine what fair New Zealand would be like if the Labour Government, dominated as it is by Communism, got into power. I trust it may get a big smash up this election and go down in stinging defeat, for in smashing it up we are smashing up ' infidelity, revolution, hate, laziness and murder.
