SPORT OF TROTTING.

TRACK FOR TRAINING. OBTAINED ON MR BUICK’S PROPERTY.

1 For sonio time past the Manawatu Trotting Club has enjpoyed the use of ‘ tho Awapuni racecourse for its annual meeting and trainers of trotting horses have conducted thoir operations l on the track there. Recently, however, the Trotting Club was advised that the privilege was not being continii'ed. The decision of the Racing Club meant securing another training track and in view of the difficulty of obtaining one locally, moro than one trainer seriously considered removing from this centre. However, the position promises to be remedied to some extent as the club has secured a training track on the property of Mr D. Buick on Boundary road. Some years ago Mr Buick and his late father were actively engaged in the sport of racing and down a private track for training"purposes and it is this property which the Trotting Club has secured tho right to use. Although Mr Buick is not now actively engaged in the pastime, the track is, save for the deterioration from want of use, in good condition and effecting the necessary improvements should present little difficulty. It is anticipated that one section of the paddock will be taken over by the railway authorities when the deviation scheme is entered upon, and to meet such situation it is intended to re-build the track so as not to include that area. When completed the club will possess a track of a little oyer six furlongs in radius and which will have very easy comers. The order to move from the Awapuni track dates from tho end of the present month and the work of preparing the new site will be commenced directly following the local show, when the contractor, who has been given tho work of altering the course, will be free to undertake the task.
