PAULINE FREDERICK. NOTED FILM STAR IN “SPRING CLEANING.” Miss Paulino Frederick, who has considerably impressed in the past by the quality of her work as a screen artist, added immensely to her great reputation aa an emotional actress when Lonsdale’s comedy-drama “Spring Cleaning” was presented at the Opera House last night. If tho audience forgot to applaud very loudly when tho American actress (who is delightfully free of Americanisms) made her first appearance, they certainly made up for it at the final curtain, when a really great performance on Miss Frederick’s part and a clover interpretation on Miss Juno Elvidge’s part drew forth sustained applause. “Spring Cleaning” has a dialogue full of smart epigrams, powerful situations and a happy conclusion that is anticlimax, but not weak anti-climax. With masterly stagecraft tho talented author and librettist achieves his happy ending and solves his own problem to the satisfaction of all.

Miss Paulino Frederick is a very accomplished actress, though sometimes there is an excessive facial expression due, probably, to tho habit of screen technique; she has a beautiful voico and figure. Hers ■was a powerful, an ideal, interpretation of , the wayward and morcurial-moodod Margaret of “Spring Cleaning.” Miss June Elvidge as Mona, tho Cockney girl, was wonderfully effective. Mr Mayno Linton was tho strong but loquacious husband who denounces in the novel ho has written the set Margaret liankoiV for; Mr George Barraud was his rival Ernest, tho professional lady killer, while Mr Austin Davis was exceedingly clever as the ladylike Bobby. Tho other roles wore so capably filled as to make a well-balanced cast. PARAMOUNT. CHARLES DICKENS STORY. Charles Dickens, adored by book lovers the world over is responsible for tho appealing story from which tho fascinating photoplay, “The Lovo Story of David Copperfield,” has been adapted. This uniquo production is now showing at tho Paramount Theatre, and is pleasing those who demand a wholesome story, sympathetically portrayed by a well-nigh flawless cast of talented players. KOSY.

3J-lIOUR PROGRAMME. Herbert Rawlinson as Jim Randolph, the young husband, is tho leading man, with Elaino Hammerstein cast as his wife in “Everyman’s Wife,” now showing at tho Rosy. Dorothy Phillips, Robert Cain and Diana Miller also have big parts assigned to them in this drama of domestic disturbances. “The Galloping Dude,” a Western comedy-drama, was thoroughly enjoyed by big audiences yesterday afternoon and evening. The comedy situations are frequent and good. A clover two-reel comedy, a news and review complete tho three and a-half hours. PALACE THEATRE “WONDERFUL LONDON”—A GREAT FILM. “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.” Thus it was written, and in the few words is a world of truth. To the Londoner, London is tho world, while to others of tho British raco it is tho pulse of tho world, its very heart. It is a noblo city, beautiful and ugly, a seething, roaring' mass, and a multitude of reposeful nooks at tho same time. It has so many features that one wonders if anybody really knows it. New Zealanders who have visited it have come back with wondrous tales and wordy descriptions, but how little of the amazing city they have seen ! That is shown by tho splendid picture, “Wonderful London,” which is to be screened at the Palace Theatre to-night and at 2.30 and 7.45 to-morrow.
