Detectives told a strange story today, when Ramsay Murray, aged 55, a carpenter, who was arrestsed at a select hotel, was charged with vagrancy and remanded. Detectives stated that, acting on a warrant, they called at Scott’s Hotel, where Ramsay was staying as a guest. According to information deceived from the Sydney police, some time has been spent tracing a man who last December called on a firm of Sydney solicitors and represented himself as an elder brother of a wealthy English family, seeking his younger brother, whom he believed to be in Australia, Ho wanted to give him his portion of the patrimony that had fallen to him. MOVED IN SOCIETY. Ho stayed at the best hotels, lived most luxuriously, moved in the best society, and went through the marriage ceremony with a charming Sydney girl. To her he is alleged to have stated that he was a Queensland semimillionaire. He paid £445 for a honeymoon cabin for the voyage to London and gave her £250 towards her trousseau, both in cheques. Then he went to Adelaide and later came to Melbourne, where lie lived with western district squatters and their wealthy sons at Scott’s. - Detective Lynch said that Ramsay Murray came to Melbourne last Saturday and stayed at Scott’s. He owed £3 15s 2d for board, and when arrested had 8s Bd. Ho was drawing a sol- ! dicr’s nension of £4 a week. He was I wanted' in Sydney, but particulars of the warrant were not available yet. Murray was remanded for a week, and a later remand to Sydney will be sought.
