FIRST SECRETARY OF STATE. EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES. Per Press Association. . WELLINGTON, July 18. The Governor-General lias received the following message from Mr L. C. Amery on the latter’s assumption of office as the first Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs: —"1 should like to assure you and your Alinisters of my earnest desire that the spirit of friendly co-operation which now happily exists should he maintained and strengthened. My hope is that the effect of the new departure will be so to promote mutual understanding of our common problems that the sphere of intcr-communication and consultation will he enlarged with resulting good to the Empire as a whole. As first holder of tiic office of Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, J shall he proud to work towards this object.—(Signed) Amery.” . His Excellency replied: “My Ministers and I 'extend to you our warmest congratulations on your assumption of office as first Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs. AYe feel sure that the reorganisation which you have done so much to bring about will result in still closer co-operation between the Governments of the Empire in matters of common concern.
