RELIGIOUS EXERCISES.
PROPOSED BILL. supported by terrace end COMMITTEE. At tho meeting of the Terrace End School Committee last evening a circular was received from Mr L. M. Jsitt, M.P., asking for support for a bill known as the “Religious Exorcises in Schools Bill,” which provides for the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer and ;< rending from the Bible in the schools each day. The hill also provides for the exemption of teachers and children with conscientious objections. The chairman (Mr G. H. Stiles) said the proposalUwoul.d have his wholehearted support. He thought that, as many children had no 'opportunity of attending Sunday schools, the proposed measure was in their interests. It was impossible under tho hill for a minister of any church attending the school and teaching doctrines which would not be acceptable. Mr Cameron said that he could not see why such teaching was not permitted in primary schools when the pupils of secondary schools commenced each day wjtli the Lord’s Prayer. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to support the bill, and the secretary was instructed to convey the decision" to the member of Parliament for the district.
