SOCCER FOOTBALL

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The management committee of the Manawatu Football Association met last evening, Mr J. C. Young presiding. The Wanganui Association wrote enquiring whether August would be acceptable for the match between the writer’s representative team and Manawatu at Wanganui.—lt was decided to reply accepting the date. ( The New Zealand Football Association forwarded advice that the entries of the following teams in this district had been accepted for the Chatham Cup competition: R.S.A., Rangers, Athletic, St. Andrew’s and Foxton. The writers added that it would facilitate the progress»of the competition if Manawatu’s representative team w'as found by July 18. The usual date of completion was .Tiny 7, but, owing to late entries, the time had been extended. —Received.

St. Andrew’s Football Club wrote apologising for the default of its A team on Saturday last, which, the writers Btated, had been brought about, by a misunderstanding owing to weather conditions. It was pointed out that the team captain, at twenty minutes to three, asked the referee for an extension of ten minutes after the starting time, if required, in order to pick up by car the four members who were absent, but the referee replied that hq would blow his whistle at 2.45, and if the team was not ready he would award the match to its opponents. In spite of this, the referee had not finally blown his whistle until twelve minutes past three, and, had the team known that he was prepared to wait so long, it would have had ample time to turn out when he had blown his whistle. St. Andrew’s did not wish to complain, but, under the circumstances, would respectfully request the committee to consider the possibility of still giving the club an opportunity of at least competing for the Chatham Cup.—lt was decided to take no action.

Mr A. W. Juster, manager of the China United Soccer Association, Hongkong, wrote under date of May 16 advising of a proposed tour of the Dominion by a Chinese soccer team, which had met and defeated every combination in the. East, including Japan and the Philippines, and which was regarded as a much superior team to the one that visited New Zealand some time ago. The writer added that the cost of tire tour would be very high, and it was estimated that £3OO would bo required for .every match. The team would be prepared to play in Palmerston North if suitable arrangements could bo made, and the writer desired to know what offer the association was prepared to make. —It was decided to refer the letter to the New Zealand Council and to suggest that the matter cLthe tour' be not entertained, owing to the fact that it followed on that of the other Chinese team at a short interval. PLAYER SUSPENDED.

Rev. C. W. Duncumb, referee in the Foxton v. Rangers match last Saturday week, reported that ho had ordered a Foxton player, G. Travers, senr, oft' the field for repeated appealing, etc. Travers had argued before leaving the field, and in the second spell returned to the field without the referee’s permission. In this connection the Foxton Club wrote apologising for the misbehaviour of the player concerned, and staled that ho had already been dealt with by the club. It was now thought that his being sent off ‘the field was sufficient penalty, especially as he had since apologised to the referee. A motion that Travers be suspended for the remainder of the season was lost in favour of an amendment that he be suspended for four playing Saturdays. GENERAL. Mr Jenkinson reported that there were good - prospects of a team being formed under the I auspices of the Te Awe Awe Boy Scout Troop. | A tender at £685 was accepted for the construction of the grandstand at North Street Park, and the work is to be commenced at once. ' Mr P. MacKenzie was appointed coach for the Hokowhitu School team.

It was decided that no player be allowed to hold the office of selector, and Messrs J. Forbes and 11. Crouch were accordingly appointed in the places of Messrs L. Blackwell and H. J.
