LAW CLERKS' SOCIETY
FORTNIGHTLY AIEETING. “That the transport facilities of New’ Zealand should be wholly nationalised,” was the subject chosen for the usual fortnightly debate of the Palmerston North Law Clerks’ Debating Society held last evening. Air J. Sharman, president of the society, presided over a fair attendance of members. For the affirmative side of the question were Al,essrs J. Turnbull and G. Bowden, while those contending the negative were Messrs C. FI. Goldfinch and A. S. Muirhead. Oil a popular vote taken at the conclusion of the debate the affirmative won on the casting vote of the chairman. Mr J. A. Grant, representing the Law Society, was present as judge and at the conclusion of the speeches and replies, gave constructive criticism on the speakers’ remarks. He placed the speakers in the following orders: —Alessrs Bowden, Turnbull. Muirhead and Goldfinch. He awarded a total of 188 marks to the affirmative and 148 to the negative. At the conclusion of his remarks the judgewus accorded a voto of thanks by acclamation.
Mr T. J. Rodgers gave a law lecture on that portion of the law ot property relating to the rule against accumulations and the rule against perpetuities, for which address he received a vote of thanks.
