AUSTRALIA v. MANAWATU. BIG MATCH FOR - "ENTHUSIASTS. Interest in the forthcoming hockey match between tho Australian eleven and tlie elect of Manawatu is steadily growing and, although the trial of strength will not eventuate until tlie 15th of next month, tlie campaign in connection witli tlie sale of tickets is proving most successful, some hundreds having already been disposed of. The local hockey authorities will transfer their seat of operations for tho duv from the sportsground to the showgrounds and the capacious slund at tlie latter ground will enable tlie seating of a large number of patrons in comfort, whatever the element might he. The ground is to be specially rolled for the occasion and every endeavour will be. made to provide the visitors with u fast, area for their initial mutch of tlie tour. On the occasion of the last appeurunce of an Australian team in New Zealand, Palmerston North had the honour of staging the final match of the tour, tho only test, and now it is to be given the honour of staging the opening match, for the visitors arrive at, Wellington tlie day previously, and following tho game here will proceed direct to Auckland. Tlie opportunity of witnessing a first-class hockey match is not often presented Pnliiierstonians and to the hundreds who follow the Rugby or soccer code an eeXhibition of the other winter sport will come as a pleasant- surprise, for it contains much that is spectacular, while tlie pace at which the game proceeds is unquestionable.
