WINTER SHOW.

SPLENDID DAY YESTERDAY, LARGE CROWDS IN FINE WEATHER.

The third day of the Manawatu A. and P. Association's winter carnival yesterday was characterised by glorious weather and ns the afternoon advanced the attendance assumed very considerable proportions, the exhibition halls being thronged, while the brilliantly lighted sheds again presented an'animated scene in the evening, the wrestling contosts attracting a liberal number of sportlovers. SPLENDID LEAPING EVENTS. “Throughout the jumping was very good indeed,” commented Mr Jas. Bell, of Hunterville, judge of the horse competitions, to a “Standard” reporter. Especially was that the case in the open classes, he added, mentioning that four horses had to jump off to decide the first, second and third places. It. had been u difficult task to separate the lady riders--they were such a uniformly good lot. In order to decide the prizewinners it had been necessary to have some of the competitors change mounts, for there had been very little indeed to choose between any of the horsewomen. “They were good enough to ride with distinction in any part of the world,” affirmed Mr Bull, who incidentally mentioned that in respect to the horses themselves, the typo of hunter s£en in action was showing an improveinonr. The entries had been strong numerically as well as in point of quality and there were no less than 21 in the open event. Taking it all round the competition v is eminently satisfactory, both from the point; of view of riders and mounts, while the oval was well conditioned and the general arrangements all that could be desired. SCHOOLS’ MILK TESTING. (Judge: Mr E. H. Lange, Feilding.) There were 15 entries for the milk testing competition in the schools division, the competitors displaying a commendable aptitude for this branch of practical dairying. The method was the Babcock system, the event being open to farmers sons and daughters, high and technical school pupils and seventh standard primary school pupils. The results were as follow: Alwyn Carter (P.N. Boys’ High School), 91pts, 1; Colin Collins (P.N. Boys’ High School), 89pts, 2; N. Lovelock and E. Barnett (P.N.8.H.5.), tie, 80pts ouch 3; Jas.
