ENTOMOLOGICAL RESEARCH
CONFERENCE'S RECOMMENDATIONS. Received June 19, 12.40 p.m. LONDON, Juno 18. The entomological conference at which Sir Joseph Cook represented the Commonwealth concluded to-day. It resolved (1) that the guaranteed revenue of the Imperial Bureau, which is a department of the Colonial Office, should be £13,000 annually, whereof £11,700 would bo contributnblo by tiro Dominions and colonies; (2) that the bureau arrange for the exportation to the Dominions and colonies of benevolent parasites at an estimated cost of £ll4O annually; (3) that the senior officer of the bureau visit the Dominions and ‘colonies and consult with entomologists there. Tho chairman pointed out that whereas the United States spent £250,000 on entomological research, Britain. wit.i her world-wide Dominions, was spending only £13,000. , T The South African delegate, Mr Lonnsbury, appealed to Australia to search for a parasite to destroy tho gompitrus scattelutus, which was playing havoc with African eucalvpts through its ravages in Australia are negligible.—A. and N.Z. cable.
