Captain Henry Cooper, •veterinary surgeon, who has been on an extended tour in England, returns to Palmerston North to-day. Rev. J. J. lynvis, a former minister of Pt. Paul’s Methodist Church, has promised to assist at the jubilee celebrations of tho congregation early next month. Mr B. J. Jacobs, president of the Palmerston north branch of the R.S.A., is at, present in Dunedin attending tho annual conference of the Dominion R.3.A. Rev. C. II Iruvs, 8.A., D.D., principal of the Methodist Theological College in Auckland, has consented to conduct tho services in celebration of the jubilee of St. I i % , Church on Sunday, J uly sth. Ihe Plunket Society, at its annual meeting last evening, congratulated Sir Truby King on the honour lecently bestowed on tom by the King, and expressed the }iopo that he would bo spared many more years in which tx> pursue his great work. Rev. T. G. Hammond, who ministered in Palmerston North in 1874, and who was in 1877 the first resident minister of any churoh in this town, has consented to attend the jubilee celebrations of St. Paul’s congregation. Mr Thomas Western, of Fitzroy, New Plymouth, who died suddenly a few days ago, aged 84 years, had been a resident, of New Zealand for about 60 years. He was previously well-known in Taranaki as a breeder of Lincoln sheep, and was a foundation member of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, which was formed in 1874. A motion of sympathy with Mrs L. A. Abraham in her unfortjnate accident was carried at tho Plunket Society meeting last evening, hopes being expressed for her speedy recovery. Sir Truby King, in his address, also expressed sympathy, stating that lie well remembered Mrs Abraham’s work in connection with the general conferences at Wellington. On the motion of Lieut.-Colonel Whyte, Mrs ALraham was elected a life member of the rocietv. It was learned on enquiry to-day that Mrs Abrahum’s condition was unchanged. The death has occurred at Reikiorangi, of Mrs Mary Ann Short, relict of the late Mr Reuben Short, of Palmerston North. The deceased lady attained her 100th birthday six months ago.. She and her late husband lived for many years in Palmerston North, residing in Roy street. Of late years Mr 3 Short had lived with her son at Reikiorangi, near Otalci. The funeral will leave the Salvation Army Citadel, Palmerston North, at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow for the Palmerston North cemetery.

In his address to members at the annual meeting yesterday of tho Hereford Breeders’ Association, Mr W. K. Morton said that, during the year under review, they had unfortunately lost one of their most enthusiastic members by the death of Mr E. Short. That gentleman was a breeder of outstanding ability and was well-known throughout tho whole of the Dominion. He had spared neither time nor money to make his herd a success and had imported many valuable animals from England. He was probably the largest importer of Hereford!) in recent years and ids success in the show ring was known to all. Reference to the death during the past year of Mr John Jarvis, president of ttie North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Association, was made at tho annual meeting of that body last night by Mr i . Bruce, of Palmerston North, who presided. All, ho said, realised the great Joss suffered by tho death of Mr Jarvis, and undoubtedly his position would he hard to fill. In moving a vote of condolence with the relatives of the deceased gentleman Mr G. 11. Ambler (Auckland) alluded feelingly to iha estimable qualities of the late Mr Jarvis who hail worked tirelessly and under great disabilities in the interests of tho fancy, Tho motion was carried in the customary mariner.
