STAMP DUTY.

LEGAL POINT INVOLVED. Per Prose Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 20. An interesting case involving a legal point in relation to stamp duty, began in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Fred Wilding, K.C., and Leslie Arthur Dongal 1, were charged that on August 13, 1923, at Christchurch, being concerned in or about a memorandum of transfer dated August 13, 1923, with intent to defraud Mis Majesty they did omit fully and truly to set forth all the facts and circumstances affecting the amount of the ad valorem duty with which such instrument is chargeable.

Mr P. S. Macassey appears for the Crown, Mr M. Myers for Wilding and Mr M. J. Gresson for Dougall. The proceedings were taken under section 36 of the Stamp Duties Act, 1908. Evidence for the Crown had not concluded when the court rose for the day and proceedings may last over tomorrow.
