WIRELESS PROBLEM.

RE-TRANSAIISSION OF AIESSAGES,

Received Alay 21, 11.30 a.m,

LONDON, May 20.

Radio engineers in many countries have been muting researches in connection with the possibility of storing up wireless transmission with a view to re-transmis-sion later when and where it is desired.

Germany has produced the first practical solution of the problem. A recent demonstration at Berlin showed perfect re-transmission of a wirelessed speech. , Music is more difficult to handle, though it is expected thut it will soon he faithfully reproduced at will. Tho method is analogous to the production of cinematograph Jiims. During tho first transmission a “record” is obtained upon a steel wire running from one spool to another in a strong magnetic field near the microphone. The wire so affected retuins the tone and inflections. When re-transmission is desired, it can he obtained by running the wire record over the magnetised core inter the microphone.—A. and N.Z. cable.
