A grim tragedy was perpetrated near Rockhampton when Oliver Johnson Duck, aged 39, is alleged to have shot "his illegitimate daughter, Olive Violet Duck, aged 13. He carried tho body about on horseback all night, and buried it at dawn in the sand. Then, lute in the afternoon, he surrendered to the Calliope police. The girl lad been reared by nor grandmother. Duck had lately expressed a wish to claim her and put her in a convent. Accompanied by tho police, Duck showed where ho bid tho revolver with which the* deed was committed.
