MEETING OF TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting- of the Rongotca Town Board was held on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs L. H. Yarrall (in the chair), G. Guymer, S. Teaz and W. J. Cr&ucher. Before the business of the meeting was commenced, members expressed regret at the death of the Prime Minister, and tho following motion was carried in silence, •all present standing: “That this board places on record its deep regTet at the death of the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister and expresses its sympathy with Mrs Massey and tho surviving members of his family.” On tho balance-sheet being presented by, the clerk, Mr O. P. Wood, Ml* Crouclier asked how the financial position compared with previous years. The clerk explained that the position had been fairly good for several years past, and, notwithstanding the expenditure or. improvements, the board had kept well within, its limits. There had never previously been less rates outstanding than at the end of tho last Financial year. Mr (.Voucher pointed out that the money spent on improvements would enable the board to collect more revomie. Mr Wood was to bo complimented on having collected the rates so satisfactorily. The Chairman said that the ratepayers Were fully satisfied with the expenditure on tho hall, streets and square, which had proved to bo justified. Two letters from the Levin-Foxton-Mar-ton Railway League were taken as road.

The works committee was instructed to report on the cost of putting Ouse street in order, portion of this thoroughfare being unfit for motor traffic during the winter months.

A tender at 9s 6d per yard for the delivery of 100 yards of metal was accepted. Only two tenders were received. During the winter months it was decided to commence meetings at 7.30 p.m. The works committee was authorised to procure an electric radiator, and have a hot-point installed in the board room. Accounts amounting to £2B 19s 0d were passed for payment.
