RIVER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The. monthly mooting; of the Palmerston North River Hoard was held yesterday, Mr F. J. Nathan presiding. Others present were Messrs W. L. Fitzherbert, Jos. Butchelar, H. Batchelar and \V. It. Hopcroft. A local company wrote in reference to the Board’s application for an injunction restraining it from removing gravel from the river bed, and the engineers are to draft a reply for consideration at the next meeting.
The engineers (Messrs Jickell and Gilmour) reported that, since the last meeting, the whole of the plant had been removed from Hopcroft’s groyne to the site of the groyne on Mr Gosling’s property. Twenty-five booms had been collected from the beach, besides a number of stays, piles, etc. Advertisements for a supply of red birch from the-King Country had been unsuccessful, but it was proposed to advertise in the Nelson district. A report regarding the construction of a groyne for the Borough Council a t Awapuni, near the septic tanks, for the protection of the outfall culvert, had been submitted to tho borough engineer. Arrangements were being made for a supply of blue-gum timber for piles and booms from Mr E. 11. Saunders’s* property. The timber had been inspected and found to bo of good quality, with very little sap. If satisfactory arrangements could be made, the timber would be secured. A commencement had been made with the groyne on Mr Gosling’s property. During* the last week the river had been in about quarter-flood but no damage had resulted.—The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £219 2i 9d were pased for payment.
