GORGE ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MTETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Gorge Road Board of Control was held yesterday afternoon when there were present: —Messrs F. J. Nathan (in the chair), O. McElroy J. Batclielar, R. S. Chadwick, M. O. Granger and 11. Cornelius. CORRESPONDENCE. From tho Palmerston . North Borough Council, advising that the Mayor, Mr F. J. Nathan, had been elected to represent the borough as a member of tho board.— Received. From tho Registrar of Motor Vehicles, forwarding names and addresses of owners of vehicles as requested.—Received. From tho Rangitikei County Council, advising that tho appointment of its representative to the board had been loft in the bands of the Mayor of Feilding and tho chairman of tho Oroua County Council. — Received.

From tho Pahiatua County Council, notifying tho appointment of Mr H. Cornelius as the county’s representative on tire board.—Received.

From tho Kairanga County Counoil, notifying that Cr J. Batehelar had been appointed to represent the council on the board.—Received. GENERAL.

Accounts amounting to £ll6B 12s 6d were passed for payment. Tho engineers (Messrs Jickell and Gilxnour) presented the following ‘report on tho work carried out during the month: 1088 cubic yards of rock were excavated in road widening on hillside (day work), and 341 cubic yards in column foundations; 164 cubio yards of concrete were placed in position in nine columns, and 500 lineal feet of slabs, beams, walls and kerb and 174 cubic yards of filling on concrete deck. The work of widening on the hillside between T.P. 98.72 and T.P. 111.09 will be completed in a few days (with the exception of two points the material in which will be utilised later for filling concrete deck) and a gang will during next week, commence widening between the end of the concrete and Devil’s Elbow, at the lower end of Gorge. Ono Hundred and thirty-six cubic yards of metal has been placed on the road between T.P. 93.27 and T.P. # 107.80. Very good progress was made during tho month despite the fact that bad ground was met with in 6ome of the oolumn foundations.
