FORTNIGHTLY DEBATE. “That there are reasons to fear a Yellow . Peril in the Pacific” was the subject chosen by the Law Clerks’ Debating Society, for their usual fortnightly . (lehate,. held last evening. Those contending the affirmative side of tho .question were . Messrs A. S. Muirhead and G. Bowden. Opposed to them were Messrs C. H. Goldfinch and C. Robertson. A popular vote was taken at the conclusion of the debate, the decision going to the negative. . <i Recently the Law Society, on the request of the law clerks, decided to appoint judges from the society -to preside at tho debates. Ori this occasion Mr L. Laurenson was present as judge, and, after the speeches were finished, gave his award. He declared tho debate a draw, having awarded a total of 100 marks to each side. The president of the Law Clerks’ Society, Mr J Sharman, thanked Mr Laurenson for his presence and criticism, such vote of thanks being carried by acclamation. Following on the debate Mr F. Opie spoke on that branch of the lav of torts relating to the liability of a master for the torts of his servants.
