MARVEL OF ETHER.
"ABSOLUTELY PERMANENT.” LONDON, May 6. Sir Oliver Lodge, in a book entitled “Ether and Reality,” describes ether as “our real primary and absolutely permanent instrument, and the densest thing known.” “It is the framework of the universe,” he says. “Matter is emptiness contrasted with ether, which has two functions —to weld atoms by cohesion, and the planets and stars by gravitation. I believe that we humans may surmiso that, like the ether, we have a more permanent and perfect existence, not liable to death and decay.”
