CATHOLIC MISSION.

HUGE ATTENDANCES. Tho continuation of tho Roman Catholic mission yesterday was characterised by huge attendances at devotions. Commodious as tho new St. Patrick’s Church is it was all too small to accommodate tho many hundreds who attended yesterday and extra seating accommodation had to be provided in every available space. The addle* delivered fast evening by Rev. Father McCarthy on the claims of tlio Church was heard by a record Palmerston North congregation. It was, he said a matter for wonderment that tho claims ot the Catholic Church Were. not Universally recognised for she alone possessed the four characteristics of differentiation Rom mere human institutions as tletined by Christ. Vision was obscured by tho great lack of faith, he said, oh the part of those who failed to recognise the divinity of the Church. Pride, prejudice and sinfulness often accounted for lack of faith without which it was impossible to pioaso God. Tho practice of natural virtues, did not quaiify ono for a vision of God—supernatural virtue Was needed and of that faith was the revelaition Tho preacher traced tho reasons for the infallibility of the Church, stating that Its succession could be traced from the Apostles. Ho concluded, with an appeal to all to cling to the Faith. There wore UOO communicants in the forenoon and in the ovening, as a matk of appreciation of tho splendid endeavours of tho peoplo of St. Patrick’s parish, His Graco, Archbishop Redwood, personally conducted the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
