ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The Association code matches played on Saturday at North Street Park, Flock House, and Foxton respectively resulted as follows:

Rnngor3 beat St. Andrew’s B 7—3. St. Andrew's A beat Flock House 11—4. Athletic beat Foxton 4—o. THE NORTH STREET MATCH.

The match between Rangers and St. Andrew’s B looked on paper an easy win for the former for the latter team consists for the most part of quite young players. Tho contest, however, proved a brisk one in which tho junior men kept their opponents on tho run all tho while and often attacked in dangerous fashion though there can be no doubt that Rangers had the upper hand, and by consistently feeding their wings, especially the right one, were enabled to consistently launch attacks. St. Andrew’s often displayed good combination and clever head and foot work the efforts of Henderson on their behalf being outstanding in tho match. Right from the whistle Rangers opened with a rush on their right wing and Anderson shot sideways on the run but missed. The heavier team, with tho slant of tho breeze against them for a time, pressed their opponents until the St. Andrew s forwards came away. Tantrum led Rangers down field with a solo dribbling run and made a good though unsuccessful attempt to goal. Fast work enabled St. Andrew’s front rankers to invade Rangers’ territory and for a considerable spell the young team kept Rangers busily defending. Butcher, Morgan, Claude Hans and Henderson were doing yeoman service. Hans at full-back was especially sure and effoe l tivo in getting the ball away cleanly. The succeeding few minutes were marked by up and down field play, St. Andrew’s having the best of it when of a sudden Rangers came away in a passing rush down mid-field and Dorr- netted from the melee in the goal mouth.—Rangers 1, St. Andrew’s ml.

From then on tho play livened up. Miller and Palmer were conspicuous in Rangers’ ranks and Tantrum was doing effective defensive work for ths same side. Palmer, outside left, often tricked the opposition and shot across the field to his right winger who set things moving time after time. Henderson, . St. Andrew’s right winger, often put his team in a scoring position when he secured possession and once gavo a ohanco of a certain goal had ho been supported. The chance was missed and tho deadly right wing division of tho Rangers kept up its drives and from one of them Anderson scored with a beautiful shot,—Rangers 2, St, Andrew’s nil. Just before half-time tho St. Andrew’s men enmo away in: one of their characteristic) short passing bouts and Smith on tho left wing sent a magnificent loft foot shot from a long way out. Tho ball had the goalie completely bustled, although he mat it fairly, and Foddy, coming up to the goal mouth fast, drove tho sphero homo as it lay at the foot of the defender. Halftime was called with the score: —Rangers 2, St. Andrew's 1. - . With the breeze favouring them in tne second spell Rangers had no trouble in moeting the paco of their younger opponents. Almost at once thoy attacked and scored through the agency of Beer, and less than a rainuto later Foddy scored for St. Andrew’s. Immediately after Miller scored for Rangers from a penalty kick awarded for Niven handling the ball. — Rangers 4, St. Androw’s 2. Three goals had been scored in almost as many minutes. _ ( The scoring mood obtained still ana .in quick order MoAvinue, Rangers’ inside right, easily beat the goalie with a simple snot,to the centre of the net. —Rangers 5, St. Andrew’s 2. Rangers continued to attack and by this time had tho upper hand , decisively. Anderson added another goal from a ragged rush in • the St. Andrew’s quarter.— Rangers 6, St. Androw’s 2. The latter rallied and the forwards came away with a fast run. Smith eentrod magnificently to the goal mouth and Henderson, well up as usual, drove the leather home.—Rangers 6, St. Androw’s 3. Tantrum initiated the movoment for the final score of tho match. He made a dodgy solo run down mid-field and transferred to Palmer who sent in a long slow shot, the goalie again failing to save the position. The match, which was refereed by Mr J. Davidson, thus ended in favour of Rangers by 7 goals to 3.

THE FLOCK HOUSE MATCH. Flock House played a sterling game

against St. Andrew’s A, and, although outclassed by tho senior team, revealed bursts of fast heady play which enabled them to find the net four times. Flock House won tho toss and kicked o! f with the sun at their backs, St. .Andrew's having the advantage of the wind. Within a few minutes Cotter scored for the home team and shortly after Cusack evened for St. Andrew’s Tlie scoring was rapid up to tho call of half-time when St. Andrew s led 5—4. In tho second spell of half-time when St. Andrew’s with the breeze in their favour, were too strong and netted three more goals though Flock House wero attacking strongly in tho closing stages, the fitness of the younger players being strikingly evidenced. Cotter, who played a magnificent game, received a rather nasty knock in the late stage of the game and was unconscious for some time. , HARD GAME AT FOXTON. The meeting of Athlelio and Foxton at Foxton was a haid even game, despite the faot that the former won by 4 to mlTravers, Smith and Ship pluyed well for tho coastal team and Athletic must bo regarded as somewhat lucky to emerge with such a large margin. At half-time Athletic led by one to nil but thoy added three more goals in the second half. The ecorer.3 were W. Davies und J. Fitzgerald who netted two ouch. Mr Forbes refereed. RESULTS ELSEWHERE.
