FEILDING NEWS

Owing to the death of Mr Massey the Minister of Labour has sent word that the gazetting of the change of. Feilding’s halfholiday has been postponed for a week. The Baptist Church organist, Miss Ella Wratt, who is also a prominent workorin the Church, was presented with a silver tea-pot from members of the Church, on the eve of her approaching marriage. On making the presentation Rev. C. D. Gardiner spoke of Miss Wratt’s good work, and wished her every happiness in her future life. On Thursday night, at the residence of Mr and Mrs Mai, the members of the choir entertained Miss Wratt at a social evening. A dainty supper was served and Mr Mai asked Miss Wratt to accept a silver cake-basket suitably inscribed, from the choir members. A most enjoyable evening of games and music came to a close with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

RUGBY FOOTBALL. Tho Oroua Sub-Union held a special meeting this week, those present being:— Messrs J. S. Parsons (ohainnan), McNne, Mapson (Apiti), Watt, McKenzie (Rangiwahia), Richardson, Hesseltiue (Kimbolton), Kilgour, Hewitt (Kiwitea), Shannon, Whiteman (Wnituna), Jaggard, Dermer (Cheltenham), Tuncton and McLeod (Golyton). The main business was the consideration of a protest from Kimbolton Club that Kiwitea Club, in their match against them last Saturday, had played two men who did not reside in the district. The Kiwitea Club also counterprotested to the effect that Kimholton had played a man not belonging to their district. After discussing the question considerably it was decided that, under byluw 9a of the Manawatu Rugby Union, both protests be dismissed, as the district scheme did not operate in this union. It was decided to call the attention of the Kiwitea Club bo a breach of bv-law 9,. they having played a man who had not been registered seven days. Messrs Dermer and Shannon were appointed to assist as selectors for the representative team. It was decided that tho North v. South match bo played at Kimbolton on June 3rd and that Mr N. V. Shannon’s name be added to the list of south selectors. R. Ball and J. Jansen, of Kiwitea Club, were reinstated as junior players.
