BUILDING SHIPS.
KEEPING WORK IN BRITAIN.
Received May 16, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, May 15.
As the result of prolonged negotiations a £2,000,000 contract for eight 12,000 to 14-000-ton ships for the Blue Star Line will be kept in Britain, the shipowners giving substantial preference over foreign tenders. British shipbuilders will undertake the work at considerable loss in order to prevent the extension of unemployment.—A. and N.Z. cable.
