BOWLING, TENNIS AND CROQUET.

NORTHERN CLUB.

A meeting of the general committee of the Northern Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club was held in the pavilion last evening, presided over by Mr L. R. Bryant. The matter of outstanding subscriptions was discussed and tho secretary was authorised to write to those members, who are still unfinancial for the past season, seeking payment of their dies. The secretary of the croc uet section reported that, that section wi.s arranging to raise the necessary money—by* holding suitable social afternoon gatherings—for the purpose of meeting the cost of a new croquet green required for lext season. A special committee was authorised to make definite arrangements with the Borough Council for the preparation of this green. Tho pavilion has on numerous occasions been found to be far too small for the satisfactory working of the club —particularly on club days. Schemis for an enlargement of the building lave been discussed at soveral meetings and a modified sketch plan was put before last night’s meeting which met with the general approval of members present. A special committee was appointed to discuss the matter with the Borough Council’s reserves committee. It was pointed out during the discussion that the Northern Club was one of the strongest borough clubs, but has the most cramped pavilion accommodation. Indications point to a very strong increased membership next season. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Mayes for donating extra locker accommodation to the club.
