FAILURE TO MAINTAIN.

WIFE UNPROVIDED FOR,

Charles Tong., described as a labourer, 38 years of age. appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of having failed to comply with the ternus of a maintenance order made at Levin on August 16, 1823, there being arrears amounting to £lO9. Accused pleaded guilty, stating that ha was unable to comply with the terms of the order. ■ Senior-Sergeant O'Grady stated that Tong had been arrested at Kltham on "Thursday on a warrant issued at Levin. He had been before the court previously for failing to comply with the order and was apparently making no effort to discharge his obligations. Acetified said he could not do much work because of the faot that he had a crippled hand. ~ /•

Accused replied that he had met withan accident three weeks after his wife had left him, and that he had been unable to work for a period of three months.
