NOTES FROM FITZHERBERT.

Last Friday afternoon tho annual picnio in conjunction with the FitzherberU Ea st School which had been delayed on account of tho restrictions, was lieid at the school grounds. Fortunately fine weather prevailed and there was a very fair attendance of the parents’ and friends of the school. A programme of races arranged by ihe committee for ttio children resulted as follows: Boys’ first race, G. Blenkiron 1, T, Lawrence 2, L. Brill 3; second race, E. Bond L M. Lankshear 2, J. After the prizes were given out afternoon ’tea was served by tne ladies and a liberal supply of sweets, fruit, etc., was distributed among the children. The following gentlemen, who are members of the committee, Messrs Brill (chairman), Lankshear, Anderson, Scott and Gough (secretary), with Mr Gilligan, the headmaster, worked hard to make the outing an enjoyable one for tho children. An apology for absence was reoeived iHm Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., who was unable to be present to present the prizes, but Id? Dent very kindly consented to perform this very important ceremony and was !. oorded a hearty vote of thanks by those .resent. In the evening ah impromptu dance, arranged by the committee, was held in the hall. Music for the dancing was provided by Misses Jessie Pinfold, Topsy Field an<J Winnie Gosling and Mr Arthur Brill, while Mr Brill also assisted with the accords on, and the function passed off in a very sociable and enjoyable manner. Mr Walter Gosling carried out the duties of M.O. Next Wednesday evening a me sting of settlers has been arranged to dig mss the pres and con of the proposed rural delivery—and judging by the interest already taken by those for and against it is anticipated that' there will be an enthusiastic meeting.
