BOROUGH WORKS.
ONLY NECESSITIES TEMPLATEDEXTENSION "oF BOUNDARY. When asked by a reporter this morning whether he would briefly enunciate the programme of municipal works to be placed before the new Borough Council the Mayor (Mr if. J. Nathan) remarked that there was little to state in that connection. The ratepayers, he said, did not desire that any large undertaking be considered at present and it seemed that the extension of the water si ply and sewerage would be the matt. ■ g to claim most of the / attention of .he council in the ensuing term. That work was largely made essential by the fact that the borough boundary would have to be extended in due course in order that the area about the proposed new railway station might be afforded municipal services, continued Mr Nathan. “Probably, the extension of the borough boundary will be considered during the term of the present council," he added, “but just when .depends, of course, upon the decision” of the councillors. There is »o doubt that it will have to be extended." Mr Nathan mentioned the installation of the Mayor and c&bncillors on Wednesday evening and expressed a desire that the public would attend freely. The first meeting of the new council will be held later in the month,
