OBITUARY.

MR W. C. BROPHY. The death occurred at hie late residence, 62 Grey street, at an early hour thie morning. of Mr William Charles Brophy, a well-known and highly respected resident of Palmerston North and » member of the firm of Messrs Brophy and Mowlera. Deceased!, who was 56 years of sge, was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1869, and came to New Zealand with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs Peter Bropny, in 1874, landing at the Bluff and from there going to Riverton. After three years’ residence in that town the family settled in Hawera until 1890, when the late Mr Brophy came to Palmerston North. For some time ho was associated with the old U.F.C.A. and later entered tho land agency business. The deceased gentleman was one of tho first members of the Palmenston North Orchestral Sooiety and also took an active purt in the affairs of the Palmerston North Band. A keen bowler, he was for years a very successful member of the Palmerston North Club. Deceased hud been, in indifferent health for some considerable time and his death was not unexpected. Deceased is survived by his widow, two sons —Messrs J. and D. Brophy—and throe daughters—Misses E. G. and B. Brophy—in addition to a brother, Mr James Brophy, and two sisters, Mieses L. and T. Brophy, all of Grey street. The sympathy of a very wide circle of friends will bo extended to the relatives in their sad bereavement. The funeral will leave St. Patrick’s Church for the Palmerston North cemetery at 2 pm. to-morrow.
