BIBLE SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Rangiotu branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held on Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Wilton presided over a large and representative gathering, and introduced Mrs Porter (organising secretary from Wellington), who said that the one object of the Bible Society was to give to every human being in the world who pan read the Scriptures in their mother tongue. The society was sending out the Scriptures in 668 languages and issuing 30,000 copies daily. The society did not aim at making profits ; the greater its sales, the more it loses. It did not give away the Scriptures, but sold them at a price the poorest peasant could afford to pay. It had made the Scriptures the cheapest books in the world. To meet tne deficiency it relied upon the generosity of Christian people. Mrs Porter congratulated the branch upon the splendid result of last year and hoped the record would be maintained, if not surpassed, this year. The following were elected Mrs Headley Wilton re-elected president j Mrs Mills, secretary. A committee, consisting of Mesdames Croud,, lover, Ferguson and Miss Wilton, was also appointed. Afternoon tea, was disjsensed by members of the F.W.M.N.. and was great-

ly appreciated by all, and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded them. Mrs and Miss Wilton also undertook to make the work known at Bainesse. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Mills for her secretarial work.
