INFANTILE PARALYSIS.

DISTRICT CONTINUES FREENo further cases of infantile paralysis haye been reported in the Palmerston North district for the past twenty-four hours. DOMINION NOTIFICATIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. May 2. The Health Department has received the following notifications pf cases of infantile paralysis for the 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. to-day:—Riccarton, St. Kilda, Hamilton and Leamington, on each. CANTERBURY PATIENTS. CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. Dr. Telford, medical officer, reported today that there we 35 children suffering from infantile paralysis in the public hospital, but all of them are getting on very well and the medical staff believes that practically all the little patients ultimately will be left without any material after weakness. This result, Dr. Telford said, must be attributed to tho use of the convalescent serum from the time of the outbreak in the Canterbury health district, whic-h comprises Christchurch and the West Coast. Until noon to-day, 214 positive panes wore reported and there were 27 deaths, x Three cases of infantile paralysis were reported this morning, two in the city, including a man of 37, and one from Ashburton. RESTRICTIONS AT HOKIANGA LIFTED. WELLINGTON, May 1. The restrictions re-imposed on the whole of the Hokianga County, because of infantile paralysis in that area, have now been lifted, and the district medical officers have received instructions from the Health Department to close their epidemic books and to furnish reports before the middle of June. All data will be incorporated in a comprehensive ’ report to be issued immediately after compilation.
