BUILDING ACTIVITY.

NINETEEN HOUSE PERMITS. BLOCK OF SHOPS AND FLATS. Activity in building in Palmerston North during this rrionth, as also from the commencement of 1925, has been most pronounced. During March and up to noon today 53 building permits, representing an outlay of £25,893 15s, were issued. Many permits, of course, relate to alterations and the erection of minor structures, but there are some substantial items in the total, notably £4OOO for the erection of a block of shops and fiats in Rurigitikei street, and £2300 for a garago in Church street. Nineteen house permits wero issued, and two shops apart from thoso mentioned appear in the list. Jn March of last year the total value of permits issued was about £13,300. Last month was an exceptional one, for permits included die new convent, 21 houses, and the construction of shops to replace thosu destroyed by fire in the Square. February’s total wad over £52,000.
