AUSTRALIAN ART
EXHIBITION IN LONDON. HIGH QUALITY SURPRISES. LONDON, March 16. Tlie Duiiy News, reviewing the London Australians’ exhibition at the L. C.O. Hall, says it is surprised to find that so many well-known painters are of Australian origin. The most striking exhibit, the paper adds, is Cohen’s portrait “Lady in a Black Dress with Red Belt,” but it also praises Leeson’s “London Bridge” and Leist’s “Ace of Spades.” The exhibition of English and Australian artists which is now being held is tlie most representative ever held in London. There are 200 oil paintings, water colors, and etchings by Altson, Brodzky, Burgess, BakerClack, Coates, Cohen, Coutts, Dyson, Edith Fry, Jessie Gibson, Leist, Lobley, Long, Martin, Dora Meeson, Bess Norriss, Perry, Picking, Quinn, Ida Ken tout, Scott, Stewart, and Taylor. There was a big attendance to-day, including the Countess of Jersey, Lady Nover, Lady Northtote, Sir Richard and Lady Butler, and Sir James and Lady Connolly. Surprise was expressed at the number and the high quality of the majority of the exhibits. The Daily Mail says: “Lindsay is romantic, flamboyant, and technically ingenious, but lie often challenges prudery with too much gusto, and sometimes sinks to vulgar naughtiness.”
