Tho superintendent submitted the following report: “During the past three months two (ires have been attended. Sixteen musters have been held, with an average attendance of 13.5 members at each muster. As the board is no doubt aware there is no one sleeping at tho station at present, owing to the draughty state of tho station, and it will be necessary to have the bed-, rooms lined and the partitions carried to ilie ceiling before tho members will return to the station to sleep. The locks on the bedroom doors uro also in need of renewing. The hose and helmets ordered have not yet come to- hand. Tho brigade has two vacancies owing to the resignations of Firemen Kirkland and Driver Crowe. I would respectfully advise that the board enter into negotiations with the Power Board to have the fuses removed from the buildings and placed on the poles.” — Adopted. FOXTON RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB.

SHANNON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) is making an appeal on behalf of tho Palmerston North Hospital funds and next Saturday street collections will ho made und on the Sunday evening a sacred concert will he given. The concert, will bo of a high-class, the performers having given much time and practice in order that those attending will go away satisfied. To the people of Shannon the hospital has always had an open door and this is an opportunity fur the people to show their appreciation. The Borough Council in supporting the Riccarton borough’s main highways proposal have acted wisely. About 1| miles of the main highways go through this bprough and to asphalt this for heavy traffic would bo beyond tho financial ability of the council, and there is no just reason why a borough should not receive a fair share of the revenue from the the motor tax.
