CLASSIC LOVE STORY.
ACTRESS SHOOTS POET. Received February 9, 10.15 a.m. PARIS, Feb. 8. A classic love story ended in the law courts'in the aequital of a pretty Polish actress, Stanislawa Uminska, who was charged with killing her lover, Jean Zyznowski, a poet. Evidence was given that the poet fell in love with the actress three years ago and then became a victim of cancer. He was removed to a Paris hospital, whither Stanislawa was summoned. Cancelling all engagements, she hurried thither, nursing her lover day and night, and even consenting to tho transfusion of her blood to enable her lover to withstand an operation. This was unavailing and Jean entreated Stanislawa to end his suffering with a revolver concealed beneath the pillow. The girl long resisted, but, tortured by the spectacle of his agony, she eventually drew the pistol, fired, and killed her lover. The court scenes were most pathetic, women iobbing. They finally applauded the verdict of acquittal.—A. and N.Z. cable.
