GARDEN PARTY. (From Oui> Own Correspondent.) « A most enjoyable garden parly, held under tho auspices of All Saints' Ladies Guild, toVk place at tho residence of Mrs P. Robinson, Beach road, on Wednesday afternoon. There was a large attendance and the various stalls wero situated in shady* nooks in the delightful grounds and good business resulted. Tennis and golt croquet wero also indulged in. The hostesses were Mesdames F. Robinson and i. C. Raikes (Oroua, Downs). The result of the effort was most satisfactory, both from a financial and social point of view. In the evening Miss Ina Robinson entertained tho officers in camp and others at » most enjoyable social function. ACCESS TO OCEAN BEACH. The Harbour Board is laying down flax refuse on a. track about 12ft in width and 14 chains in length leading from the oW river bod at the seaside acrosi the drift sand on to the ocean beach. The object is to provide access for motor cars through the drift on to tho firm beach. If the experiment is successful motorists will be enabled to travel along the sea coast at low tide for many miles, thus providing a delightful drive as the aand is very firm along tho coastline. ARTILLERY CAMP. Good praotico was held by the battery in camp on Wednesday with the six-pound-ers. -The big 60-pounders, which were man-handled into position on Wednesday, were in action on Thursday und Friday and fired over a seven-mile range. The health of the men in camp is excellent. Arrivals at the <amp on Thursday were Colonel Falla, O.C. 2nd Artillery Brigade, Colonel Gard'ner, Director of Artillery, and Lieut.-Nevill, all of Wellington. Officers of the Central Military Staff, Palmerston North, including Colonel Bowles, totgethor with the officers of the 7th and Bth batteries were present yesterday. BOWLING. During the week three matches have been played for the Nye Ferns. On Monday evening, a rink skipped by Thomson was successful, after an exciting finish, in securing possession of tho trophies from Smith's rink. Tho details aro:— Challengers : Whibley, Warwick, Admore, Thomson (skip) 19; holders, Powell, Healey, Walker, Smith (skip) 17. •On Wednesday afternoon a challenging rinlc slipped by Rooro, tried conclusions with Thomson's team, the gf.me being even until the ninth head when Roore obtained and then gradually increased his lead. Challengers: Winstanlcy, Downes, Christie, Roore (skip) 23 v. holders, Whibley, Warwick, Admore, Thomson (skip) 13. At the conclusion of the abovo game, a rink skipped by Walker tried conclusions for tho ferns. In this game, Rooro's rink had a lead of 12 on the six head, the challengers not having "shown colour.'' On the 17th head tho scores stood, 19—9 in favour of Roore, and on the next Walker notched a lino, which put him within striking distance. The £Oth head gave Walker another four, making the scores Rooro 20, Walker 18. However, Rooro added two on the final head, the scores then being 22 —18. Holders: WinStanley, Downes, Christie, Roore (skip) 22 v. challengers, Mason, Huntley, Smith, Walker (skip) 13. CROQUET CLUB. Results of the last 30 minutes' tournament are: —Mrs Perroau 7i,- Mrs McMurray 7£, Mrs Pearson si, Mrs Owen s£, Mrs Moore si, Mrs Smith 54, Mrs Ball 34, Mrs Parkes 34, Miss Spiers 34, Miss Wanklyn 34, Mrs Byront 24, Mrs Hood 24, Mrs Downes 2, Mrs Huntly 2.
