SALE OF FREEZING WORKS.

ROYAL COMMISSION OPENED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. The preliminary sitting of the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the administration of the Government in connection with meat export control, following complaints made l>y Mr W. D. Lysnar in the House of Representatives against the action of the Minister of Agriculture and I the Meat Board in connection with the sale of the freezing works of the Poverty I Bay Farmers' meat Company to Vestey Bros, was held in Wellington to-day. Sir John Findlay appeared for the Government; Mr Skerrett for -the Meat Board; and Mr Myers "for the National Bank of New. Zealand. Mr Lysnar, M.P., appeared in person and raised the point as to whether the order of reference was sufficiently wide to enable a proper inquiry to be made. Ho desired that it be made clear that the inquiry should include evidence as to the circumstances under which Vestey Bros, conduct their business in this country and other parts of the world. A discussion followed and Sir John Findlay said the .Government desired to keep nothing back, but asked Mr Lysnar to put his requests in writing, which Lysnar agreed to do. Sir John Findlay asked for the production of certain documents and correspondence in the possession of the Poverty Bay Meat Company. It was agreed that the commission resumo its inquiry on the 17th March at Wellington.
