Mrs P J- Seddon was a visitor to Palmerston North to-day. Mr H. L. Tapley, Mayor of Dunedin, has consented to stand for another term. Mr A. O. Laing, who since 1916 has held the position of secretary of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers' Association, has resigned from that office. Messrs J. H. P. and W. Strang, who left England on January 11, aro expected to nrrive back in Palmereton North in about a fortnight's time. A Sydney cablegram states that Mr R. 11. Long-Innee has been appointed a puisne judge to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court Bench. Mr J. L. Leydon, district railway storekeeper, Aldington, has been appointed stores audit inspector for the South Island, with headquarters at Christchurch. Mr 3. J. Hunter, of the secretarial staff of the Hon. J. G. Coates, who is recovering from an operation for appendicitis, is rocuperating at Pukerua Bay. Mr O. E. Clinkard, who represented New Zealand at the Advertising Convention at Wembley, returned to Auckland by the Niagara from Vancouver this week. Rev. W. H. A. Vickery, of Greendale, Canterbury, haa decided to accept a unanimous invitation to the pastorate of the Kniapoi and Rangiora Baptist Churches. Mr H. McGregor, formerly of the Hawera branch of the' Bank of New South Wales, who has been promoted to the position of aecounta.r, at the local office, entered upon his new duties yesterday. Mr J. S.. Muir, a sou of Mr Stanley Muir, of Gisborne, has been awarded a Government agricultural scholarship at Ruakura State Farm. He gained the hiirhes* aggregate marks for the Dominion. Dr. P. E. Allison and his wife, Dr. Hazol Allison, formerly of Wellington and Waitara, are returning to tho Dominion by the Port Macquarrie via Sydney from a. visit to England and the Continent. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch reports the death of Mr W. 11. Graham, who was for over 40 years connected with the Press Company, latterly at assistant editor. He had a lengthy illness. Mr Arthur Morton, president of the Dairy Association of New Zealand, leaves by the Ccrinthio to-day for London. He will inquire into tho best means of promoting the disposal of the Dominion's produce. Tho death occurred suddenly at Christchurch yesterday of Mr Thomas Shields, of Oriental Bay, Wellington, who was visiting the southern city on holiday. He was in his earlier days a first-class swimmer and Association football player. Dr. G. D. Robb, of Auckland, has been appointed to the West London Hospital for a second period of six months as house surgeon. Dr. W. Blomfield, also of Auckland, has been appointed house surgeon for ear, nose, and throat diseases at the same hospital.

Rev. A. T. Thompson, the nowly-ap-pointed general. seoretary for Australia and New Zealand for tho British and Foreign Bible; Society, has received a cablegram inviting him to speak at the annual meeting of the society to be held in the Queen's Hall, London, in May. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that Mr O. T. J. Alpers, of the firm of Messrs Garnck, <'owlish' <aw and Alpers. of Christchurch, has been appointed to tho vacancy on the Supremo Court Bench and will probably take up his duties next month. Mr Alpers is 58 years of age. Mr T, R. Hickson manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Dannevirke, was recently farewelled at that town prior to his departure for Wellington, where he has been appointed to the bank's head office. Air P. G. Cowper made a presentation and Mr Hickson, during his response, took the opportunity of introducing hirf successor, Mr H. Crommelin. Mr Hickaori was also presented with a case of pipes from the hank staff.
