STATEMENT DENIED.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. G. A statement contained in a Press Association message and attributed to Mr Wynn Williams, fourth officer of the American steamer West Calera, was denied this morning by a New Zealander employed as an A.B. on the same vessel. He particularly objected to the allegation that masters of ships in America had to have recourse to gaols in order to get crews. He said that this was totally untrue and a slur on respectable men.
